      Mission Statement

We, the Symposium steering committee, which is comprised of alpaca owners from around the U.S., have set out to explore the possibilities of what to do with alpaca fleece as well as what is required from the various processors, manufacturers, designers, retailers and large end users in the way of quality, quantities and statistical testing. In this way we hope to empower producers to make connections within the processing community based upon what best suits their business model.

Spurred by the 2007 Fiber to Fabric forum held at North Carolina State University, we wanted to hold a Symposium that would inform and inspire participants to continue working toward the dream of a fully-integrated North American alpaca fiber industry. The theme "Today, Tomorrow & Beyond" represents three important steps on the path toward success.

TODAY explores the alpaca fiber projects already being made and marketed on a large scale. Lessons learned and shared benefit everyone.

TOMORROW explores present day activities focused on searching for tomorrow's alpaca products and processes.

BEYOND explores and searches for new areas of research and investigation for alpaca fiber applications.

Our Inaugural Symposium took place at Gaston College Textile Technology Center in Belmont, North Carolina on April 4-5, 2009.  It was a great success for participants and presenters alike and accomplished the goal of revitalizing alpaca fiber producer interest, enthusiasm, and desire to move forward. Enthusiasm and learning continued in Denver Oct. 23-25, 2009 at the second TAFS, expanding and building on the first event.

We're still committed to the dream of a fully-integrated North American alpaca fiber industry. Join with us by attending events, sharing information in person and online, and working cooperatively. This site is designed to bring us together. Welcome!
